“Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.” Ephesians 5:11
Since our son came out as trans in 2014, I have been on a mission to understand gender ideology and how it captured our child along with hundreds of thousands more. When considering the marks of a cult, I have been struck by how these marks have shown themselves in those taking on a trans identity. What do you think?
Two years ago, I stumbled on an article in Psychology Today titled, “Has a Loved One Fallen Into a Dangerous Cult?”The twelve points listed within the “Life Cycle” were strikingly similar. Below I have highlighted some of the key points listed within these twelve and then added the connections I’ve observed within Gender ideology.
- The Big Idea.
“The big idea promises to solve all problems; to end loneliness, isolation, and a sense of personal failure. It makes vague promises of meaning and salvation.”
In Gender Ideology the “Big Idea” is “You are trapped in the wrong body.”
- Love-Bombing.
“Cult leaders and early devotees recruit from the wider population through love-bombing and promise a new start, a hope for a future of love, belonging, and salvation within a loving community of people who all believe in the big idea.”
In Gender Ideology “Love Bombing” comes from peers, schools, therapists, and people in the community promoting the big idea. Rainbow flags and gear are found everywhere. “Glitter families” are ready to welcome them if their own families are not affirming.
- A New Life.
“New recruits are inducted into a secret language and signs and symbols. They are encouraged to identify as victims of the world outside and are promised a rebirth, a new body or identity within this life or afterlife. Recruits are taught to see the world as black or white, good or evil, us or them; and this creates tight group unity which is enforced by rote learning of the cults slogans. New recruits experience euphoria as part of a chosen’ secretive group.”
In Gender Ideology terminology has had families scrambling to understand the new language and its meaning. Anyone who question this new identity is a “transphobe.” Euphoria comes with finally finding a solution for their distress, they were just “born in the wrong body.”
- Growth.
“As new recruits move into greater commitment, the cult enters the ‘expansive phase’ and looks outwards.”
In Gender Ideology recruits move from questioning, to social transition, to medical transition, and in some cases surgical transition. During the entire process many young people are documenting and celebrating their transition on social media, showing viewers how good this “new life” is.
- Rites of Passage.
“Allegiance is sworn through acts such as renouncing your own family, past life, and past name. New members are separated from all past support systems and become dependent on the cult. New members are tested by having to transform their identity, body language, and even sexual behaviors.”
In Gender Ideology recruits are encouraged to go “no contact” if family questions their identity, to erase their past history and refer to their former name as a “dead name.”
- Isolation.
“The cult isolates its members from the world beyond, depicting the outside as corrupt, evil, and violent. This increases bonding as members see themselves as ‘threatened victims’. Language control and growing paranoia makes questioning the cult impossible.”
In Gender Ideology it is believed that conservatives cannot be trusted. They are considered “hateful” and “want trans people dead.” Word of a “trans genocide” continues to spread.
- Hate Bonding.
“The cult reaches its size limit and problems arise from failures in its ‘plan for all.’ But the cult cannot admit errors. It starts to feed on hatred of the outside world.”
In Gender Ideology the WPATH Files exposed the World Professional Association of Transgender Health, the organization that all major medical groups adhere to, as largely an activist group. The Cass Review revealed the shortcomings in “gender affirming care.” With new research continuing to come forward, accusations of “hate” from the outside world continue to increase.
- Traitors.
“Gaslighting, peer pressure, and group-think prevent others from leaving. A few are helped to leave the cult by family members or forced out by cult deprogrammers, but such acts only fuel the cult’s conviction that it is under attack.”
In Gender Ideology desisters and detransitioners have found it extremely difficult to speak out. They are often harassed and attacked making it hard to leave.
- Witch Hunts.
“Internal trials within the cult weed out all potential traitors. Doubters are shamed into falsely accusing others.”
Gender Ideology demonizes desisters and detransitioners. They have been bullied, banned from social media, gaslit and face abuse from trans activists.
- Persecution Paranoia.
“As more people flee the cult, secrets are leaked to the outside world about the authoritarian rule of the leaders. Increasingly paranoid the cult weaponizes for a showdown against the world and sees violence as the necessary purifying force that will save itself from its scheming enemies.”
In Gender Ideology there has been a rise in retaliation such as preparation for the “Day of Vengeance” in 2023. Memes and TikTok videos of threats of violence are being shared on social media.
- Attack.
“Cult members are forbidden to leave and terror is whipped up about an imminent attack from external enemies, imagined or real. Allegiance to the cult is now proven by ‘striking back’ against the outside world.”
Gender Ideology has recruits chanting, “Death Before Detransition.” Families are reporting that fear is at an all time high with trans-identified individuals. Many are under the impression that they too will end up in the gas chambers as the Jews did under Hitler. Cries of President Trump being a “Nazi” deepens these fears.
- Final Conflict.
“Fearing destruction, the cult either attempts one final attack against the world or barricades itself up and enters into a state of siege. In the latter case, cult suicide pacts are common. The cult either destroys itself or lashes out against its often fantasized enemies.”
Gender Ideology is now showing recruits to have an increased risk of suicide after transition and hostility continues to be on the rise.
Thankfully testimonies from brave desisters and detransitioners breaking free are mounting. Whistleblowers within the gender industry are becoming bolder and are speaking out regarding the harmful practices within the industry.
