Beyond the Rules: Rediscovering the Heart of Purity with Across My Heart

At Calibrate Ministries, we’re passionate about helping people embrace God’s standard for sexuality—not out of fear or shame, but from a place of deep love for Him. That’s why I was thrilled to sit down with Amber and Ashley, the powerhouse sister duo behind Across My Heart Ministries.

These women have spent over a decade helping the next generation navigate the noise of our culture with clarity, grace, and truth. Their message? Purity is more than a pledge. It’s a posture of the heart.

How It All Began

Ashley was just 17 years old when she felt a call to talk about saving sex for marriage—not in a rigid, rule-following kind of way, but in a way that reflected a love for Jesus. Amber, a college freshman at the time, joined her sister on the journey, bringing her scientific mind and a heart that beat for God’s truth. What began as small group girls’ nights has now grown into national conferences, hundreds of blog posts, and their insightful podcast, Yada Yada.

What’s Wrong With “Purity Culture”?

One of the most refreshing parts of our conversation was their honesty about the failures of the purity culture many of us grew up in. You know the analogies: trampled roses, licked ice cream cones, opened gifts. The message was clear—once you’ve “messed up,” you’re ruined.

Amber and Ashley push back hard against that narrative. Yes, God calls us to live pure lives. But purity isn’t about being perfect. It’s about having a heart fully surrendered to Jesus. Abstinence is a behavior. Purity is a condition of the heart. You can save sex for marriage and still miss the point if your heart isn’t in it.

Purity That Goes Deeper

Their ministry doesn’t stop at saying “no” to sex before marriage. They’re talking about identity, self-worth, mental health, body image, addiction, and the lies young people are believing about themselves. From middle school girls reading erotic content on e-readers to teenagers struggling with their sexual identity, Across My Heart meets young people where they are, addressing their questions with compassion and biblical clarity.

Their approach? Equip kids and parents alike to replace lies with truth. To talk early. To talk often. To build safe relationships where the gospel is lived out in everyday conversation.

A Vision Bigger Than Marriage

What I love most is that Amber and Ashley aren’t just pointing to a wedding day. They’re pointing to eternity. Whether you’re single, married, divorced, or dating—God’s design for sexuality is meant to reflect something greater: the intimacy and covenant love between Christ and His Church. The end of our story is a wedding, after all—the unveiling of the Bride of Christ.

Let’s Not Miss the Bigger Story

Too often we reduce the conversation to what we’re against. But God’s design is beautiful. It’s holistic. It’s for our good. We don’t teach purity because it’s trendy or nostalgic—we teach it because it’s biblical. And as Amber reminded us, purity is something only God can give. We’re not born pure. We’re made pure through the blood of Jesus.

That’s why we need ministries like Across My Heart—and why I’m so grateful for their voice in this generation.

If you’re a parent, youth leader, or just someone hungry for truth in a culture of confusion, I highly encourage you to explore their resources, check out their Yada Yada podcast.

Let’s raise up a generation that doesn’t just follow rules—but genuinely loves God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength.
